Dr. Otarigho Benson

I am young researcher who has a burning interest in bioinformatics, genomics, proteomics as well as biotechnology and how to apply these areas of researches in the improvement of human and animal health globally. I have done some researches on identification, characterization and annotation of novel biomarkers of infectious diseases that affect the tropical regions of the globe. My recent concluded research work involved application of shotgun proteomics and bioinformatics tools to identify, characterized and annotated differentially expressed proteins and novel biomarkers of Schistosoma mansoni infection in Biomphalaria glabrata (natural snail vector) and Mus musculus (mice model). This research work unveil the Schistosoma-host interactions and identify targets which may aids in drugs, vaccines and vector control strategies development as well as diagnosis in the future. I have also performed different data analyses (includes bioinformatics) and meaningful interpretation to answer biological and clinical questions. At present, I am trying to widen my research focuses into searching for answers to critical questions in the sensory nature of tropical disease vectors (mosquitoes, tsetse flies and others), how they locate human and other definitive host as well as how this can lead to the control of these vectors and the disease they transmit.
